Gerina has always been a sports enthusiast. Gerina started playing golf when she was 15 years old. Gerina finished her high-school education in Goddard High School. She was the winner of her place in the New Mexico State Golf Tournament during her time in high school. In addition, she was a volleyball player who competed on the level of state. She attended Texas's University of Texas, Texas during the 2003 academic year. During the senior years of her career, she won each tournament where she played. During undergraduate studies, she earned the titles of Conference USA Female Athlete and Conference USA Individual Player of the Years.
